Labor Watch - Dozens of workers in the Jordanian-Syrian free zone threaten to hold a sit-in if the Ministry of Industry and Trade and Ministry of Labour have not responded to their demand by cancelling the decision of the Syrian side to reduce their salaries to 126 dinars, instead of 450 dinars.
"The Syrian side issued a decision to reduce the salaries of Jordanian employees to 126 dinars, which is contrary to the Jordanian Labor Law, which stipulates that the minimum wage is 220 dinars," said the Entry and Exit Officer of the Jordanian-Syrian Free Zone.
Al-Khalidi said that the workers visited the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Industry, who informed them that the Syrian partner is the one who ordered to apply this decision, knowing that the company is owned by the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the Syrian Republic equally and none of them has the right to enforce any decision without observing the labor laws of both countries.
Al-Khalidi pointed out that all employees will hold an open sit-in with their families in front of the Prime Ministry on 2 July 2018, after they receive the next salary from the banks and ensure whether that arbitrary decision has been applied.
