labor watch - Director General of the General Budget Department, Dr. Mohammad Alhazaymeh revealed that an amount of JOD 4 billion was allocated for salaries of civil servants. The amount was listed under current expenditures totaling JOD 7 billion.
During a discussion panel organized by the project to promote the institutional and administrative capacities of the House of Representatives, Alhazaymeh stated that half of the budget was allocated for salaries of civil servants, the Government paid about JOD one billion as public dept interest, and an amount of about JOD one billion was allocated for capital expenditures.
He said that the number of jobs held by the public sector reached about 190 thousand jobs, out of which135 thousand jobs were held by both the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education.
Alhazaymeh pointed out that there were 14 independent Government institutions which transfer its surplus annual returns to the general budget, other independent Government institutions do not support the general budget but are self-sufficient, and therefore, no allocation was made for them in the budget.
