Jordan: New directives for civil servants selection and appointment
labor watch - Civil Service Board in Jordan during a meeting held Sunday chaired by H.E. Dr. Klaif Alkhawaldeh, the Minister of Public Sector Development endorsed a number of directives stemming from the Civil Service Act.
 
The directives amended basis of selection and appointment of civil servants, management and evaluation of job performance, and description and classification of civil service positions, as well as basis of assessment for purposes of The Ideal Civil Servant Award.
 
Alkhawaldeh, in a press statement, said that these directives were drawn in cooperation between the Ministry and the Civil Service Bureau within their joint implementation of a project to review and update the Civil Service Act and directives issued by virtue thereof, and which were listed as projects of the executive plan of Government Cadre Performance Development Program for 2014 - 2016.   
 
The amendments included acknowledging the data base of the Civil Status and Passports Department to assign place of residence of candidates for the purpose of issuing the competitiveness lists, as well as acknowledging the letter of the Chancellery of Tribes Affairs in the Royal Court for the purpose of determining names of desert citizens and residents therein in order to issue their competitiveness lists.
 
The amended directives stipulated passing each of the competitiveness test and the personal interview as preconditions for appointment of nominees who were excluded from conditions of the directives of civil servants selection and appointment as per their nomination regulations. The amended directives also permitted the appointment of holders of Community Colleges degrees in educational positions at third category positions; it also obliged Government institutions to enroll those selected for appointment in financial and control departments in the Government Accountant Prequalification Program before issuance of their appointment resolution.
 
Alkhawaldeh stated that the directives included simplification of forms used in the process of management and evaluation of job performance, reorganization of procedures related to evaluation and amendment over prefixed dates to facilitate dealing with it and achieve the goals of job performance evaluation process.
