“The Ministry of Tourism
Labor Watch - Ministry of Tourism and Antiquates rejected the establishment of a trade union for tourist guides.

Workers in the tourism sector said they intend to carry out a series of escalatory measures against the Ministry’s rejection. They stated that the Ministry rejected the establishment of a trade union for them despite the constitutionality of their demand in line with the Jordanian Constitution which ensured the right of all workers to establish trade unions of their own to look after their interests and achieve their objectives.

Demands of tourist guides are to establish a trade union, provide security protection for tourist guides who are constantly subjected to assaults, pressure to adopt amendments of tourists and association regulations, facilitate passage of tourist guides through border crossings, stop all exceptions in granting licenses to guides in particular those who do not have degrees under the argument that they speak an uncommon language, and to fix a minimum to remunerations paid to tourist guides.

It is noteworthy that the number of tourist guides reaches 1300 throughout the Kingdoms’ governorates.
