Labor Watch - Teachers’ Association expressed their reservation regarding a decision by the Laws Interpretation Bureau, which declared illegality of the teachers’ strike, considering the decision a violation of Jordan’s Constitution.
Naser Al-Nawasrah, a Teachers’ Association Council Member, said that this decision violated the Jordanian Constitution in Articles 15, 16, both of which ensure freedom of expression for Jordanian citizens.
Earlier, the Laws Interpretation Bureau emphasized that teachers’ strike was harmful to students’ interests and their right to education; it also stated that the strike was an illegal manner of presenting teachers’ demands, and that it violates provisions of Ministry of Education laws and regulations, as well as the Teachers Association Law, Civil Service Law, and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.
