The Jordanian Labor Watch praised the Ministry of Labor's decision, issued today, in which it confirmed that government announcements regarding official holidays and religious holidays include private sector institutions based on the decisions issued by the Special Bureau for the Interpretation of Laws, namely Decision No. 14 of 1972 and Decision No. 21 of 1974.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Jordanian Labor Watch said that this step is in the right direction and will limit discriminatory measures against private sector workers when official holiday announcements are issued.
The Jordanian Labor Watch explained that being off on public holidays or religious festivals is the right of any worker, as stipulated in the Decision of the Bureau for the Interpretation of Laws No. 21 of 1972.
The Jordanian Labor Watch called on the Ministry of Labor to expand the coverage of workers in the private sector, with announcements to reduce the number of working hours in case of emergency or weather conditions.
The Jordanian Labor Watch stressed that weather conditions affect all workers, whether in the private or public sector, and that their continued exclusion from announcements of reduced working hours is a diminution of their rights.
The Jordanian Labor Watch has always called for the inclusion of private sector workers in the Prime Minister's announcements regarding official holidays and religious holidays or reducing working hours, and to stop discriminatory measures against them that violate international labor standards related to equality in the work environment.
