Jordan Labor Watch
Workers in allied health professions accounting and administration roles at Prince Hamzah Hospital in Amman, have organized a two-hour sit-in today, Sunday. due to their ongoing concerns about the hospital administration ignoring their demands for bonuses.
Despite the hospital director's earlier commitment to address their concerns, the workers have not received a response.
During their communication with Labor Watch, the workers revealed that the hospital director had assured them during a previous sit-in held in mid-May that he would meet with the Health Minister to discuss their demands.
However, more than two weeks have passed since then, with no communication from the hospital director. The workers claim to have made multiple attempts to arrange meetings with him, all of which were refused.
This persistent lack of progress and unfulfilled promises prompted the workers to initiate the current sit-in. As they emphasized that today's sit-in is just the beginning of a series of planned actions aimed at exerting pressure on the Ministry to address their demands.
In their statement, the workers called upon their colleagues in other hospitals and health centers affiliated with the Ministry to participate in the sit-in, each in their respective workplaces.
They highlighted that these demands concern not only themselves but all medical, administrative, and accounting professionals working within the Ministry.
The approximately 270 male and female employees involved in this movement advocate for several changes.
They are requesting an increase in the technical allowance for allied health professions to 135 percent, similar to their counterparts in other medical professions.
Additionally, they are calling for overtime allowances to be calculated based on the total salary. As well as the transportation allowances and the establishment allowance (An allowance granted to employees of financially and administratively independent government institutions who are assigned to work overtime).
