NCHR workers to meet with Commissioner General as strike enters 77th consecutive day
Jordan Labor Watch – Workers at Jordan’s National Center for Human Rights’ executive body, the Secretariate, have organized a one-hour partial strike for the 77th consecutive day, to demand the annulment of the appointments to leadership roles issued by the Center’s former Commissioner General, Dr. Irhil Gharaibeh, before his departure.

The strikers said the Center’s new Commissioner General Samar Al-Haj Hassan, who returned from abroad on Monday, informed the workers that she would meet with them on Wednesday to discuss their demands.

Protesters told Jordan Labor Watch that they hoped the new Commissioner General would understand their demands and rescind the “arbitrary and discriminatory” hierarchical overhaul made by her predecessor.

The workers stated that the strikes would continue for as long as those decisions, which they described as “contrary to the legislation governing the work of the Center,” were not reversed.

The previous Commissioner General had appointed a new Commissioner for Protection and Acting Commissioner for Reinforcement, in addition to filling other vacant administrative rolls, from among the Center’s staff. The workers rejected this decision and have been striking to protest it since it was brought into effect.
