Day laborers at A.P.M.T, a subsidiary of Aqaba Container Terminals Company (A.C.T), suspended their strike, which lasted for more than 60 days.
The decision to suspend the strike came after the first labor court hearing between representatives of the General Trade Union of Seaports and Clearance Workers and the parent company.
“Workers suspended their strikeout of respect for the Jordanian judiciary andeir belief in its fairness,” said Basil Al-Saudi, who is a member of the General Trade Union of Seaports and Clearance Workers and a representative of the workers in the case.
Speaking to the Jordan Labor Watch, Al-Saudi indicated that this dispute occurred after several appeals led by the union’s labor committees, represented by the day laborers in the port of Aqaba, to secure permanent employment within the company and to obtain all benefits as their fellow colleagues at the Aqaba Container Terminals.
