Electricians demand the overthrow of the president of the Trade Union and give notice to the General Federation
Jordan Labor Watch - Ahmed Al-Malkawi
Members of trade union committees granted by the General Trade Union of Workers in Electricity carried out a protest in front of the headquarters of the General Federation of Jordanian Trade Unions in Al-Shmeisani, Amman.

Protesters demanded immediate elections for the Trade Union of Workers in Electricity to end the trade union vacuum and repeal the recent amendments to the main regulations of Trade Unions that were recently conducted "in secret."

Atta Al-Sheab, Chairman of the committee that was dissolved from an electricity company, said that the protesting body allowed the union's administrative body 10 days to issue the decision to hold elections after the government gave it permission, and to eliminate the recent amendments to the unified system of the Union of Trade Unions.

The vigil saw a heavy security presence around the headquarters of the General Union of Trade Unions, although there were only 30 protesters, and their slogans did not depart from the dismissal of the president of the trade unions and the cancellation of recent amendments to the common system of trade unions.

The incident witnessed a heavy security presence in the vicinity of the headquarters of the General Federation of Labour Unions, although the number of protesters was only 30. Their motto did not mention the dismissal of the head of trade unions and the elimination of the recent amendments to the uniform system of Trade Unions.

Committee members stressed the mobilization of hundreds of workers if their demands are not met within 10 days in a stand in front of the union headquarters demanding the overthrow of the union president Ali Al-Hadid and the president of the union Mazen Al-Maaita.

The recent amendments prevented members of other unions from running for trade union committees and administrative bodies in trade unions, with more than 2,000 electricity workers holding university degrees affiliated with trade unions.

The protesters chanted the downfall of the union's governing body and its president Ali Al-Hadid, as well as the overthrow of the governing body of the General Federation as the majority of them are retired.
