Teachers stand in solidarity with their Union
Jordan Labor Watch - On Sunday, a number of teachers expressed their solidarity with their Union, the Council of the Teachers’ Union and their fellow teachers who were subjected to administrative penalties due to their positions.
The teachers stated that the elected Union Council is their sole legitimate representative. They demanded that the government stop targeting teachers and their Union, and drop all the sanctions that have been imposed on their colleagues.
During the past week, several governorates witnessed various activities and protests by teachers, expressing teachers' solidarity with their Union and its Council.
The Amman Criminal Court of Justice issued a judicial ruling dissolving the Teachers’ Union and its Council and imprisoning its Council’s members under the charges filed against them. They were later released. However, the Teachers’ Union appealed this ruling through the Court of Appeal, which will issue its verdict during the coming period to either confirm or annul the ruling.
On the 13th of December 2020, the Ministry of Education referred a number of teachers to the Early Retirement Program, including the Vice President of the Teachers’ Union, Nasser Nawasrah, members of the Union Council, Ghalib Abu Qadis and Kafah Abu Farhan, and the official Media Spokesperson for Teachers’ Union, Nouraldin Nadim.
