Phenix Center sends a memorandum to the House of Representatives on the proposed amendments to the Labor Law
Phenix Center for Economic and Informatics Studies sent a note to the Parliamentary Committee for Labor, Social Development and Population on the government’s proposed amendments to the Labor Law.

The Center called on the House of Representatives and the Senate to withdraw the recent amendments proposed by the government and requested the opening of an inclusive dialogue with various relevant parties, including workers, employers, civil society organizations and parliamentarians, in order to develop comprehensive reforms that would take into account the minimum levels of international labor standards and national priorities.

Phenix stressed the need to develop the Labor Law in a holistic manner so as to provide social protection for all workers, in line with the view of the International Labor Organization (ILO) within the standards of decent work. Furthermore, the Center underlined that recurrent partial amendments on the Law’s articles during short periods of time severely undermine the achievement of legislative stability in the field of labor relations in Jordan, especially since some of the amendments currently proposed include articles that have been modified a year ago.

Phenix Center presented a set of specific proposals on some of the articles which are considered necessary to ensure access to a balanced and fair law that provides basic human rights and protection for the various parties involved.
