Labor Watch - On Tuesday, hundreds of workers in the healthcare support professions carried out a sit-in in front of the Ministry of Health, to demand their right to form a union and an increase in the technical bonus for workers in the public sector.
The head of the National Committee for Healthcare Support Professions, Hussein Al-Oran, told the Labor Watch that the formation of a union for the medical professions is a legitimate constitutional right, stating that the protests will not stop until the Healthcare Support Union Law, which has been in the Prime Ministry’s drawers for more than a year, is sent to the National Assembly.
Al-Oran called for the necessity of approving the Union of the Workers in the Healthcare Support Professions, that would preserve the rights of workers in these professions, such as bonuses and health insurance.
Protesters also demand a risk allowance to be paid for all specialties, an increase by 135% in the technical allowance for workers in the medical professions - similar to the members of other professional unions -, the amendment of the benefit system granted to them, the payment of overtime work and transportation, and an improvement in the end-of-service retirement by activating a Provident Fund.
