Labor Watch - UNRWA’s workers unions in Jordan announced the beginning of a strike on the 3rd of November.
A statement issued by the unions (teachers, workers, services, Headquarters/Amman) after the meeting with UNRWA’s management, declared an open-ended strike from Sunday, the 3rd of November, during which all institutions will be closed and the services suspended while all the employees will stay at home.
UNRWA staff demands an increase of 200 dinars for all employees (as part of the basic salary starting from early next year 2020), a comprehensive salary survey, high-quality medicines in the Agency's clinics and an increase in the number of sanitary workers in the Palestinian refugee camps in Jordan
In its statement, the union gave full responsibility for the worsening of the situation and the resulting strike to the UNRWA administration, blaming it for not meeting the workers’ demands and marginalizing Jordan as the least fortunate among the areas of operations.
