Labor Watch - On Monday, Aqaba Railway employees carried out a large march from Ma'an to Aqaba, ending with a protest in front of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) building to demand an increase in their salaries and an improvement in their standard of living.
The employees are required to include the 13th and 14th salaries for social security, pay the annual leave for 2017 and 2018, transfer the government health insurance to private health insurance, raise the annual increase to 50 dinars, standardize the housing allowance for all employees to 150 dinars and regularize the daily rated workers.
A statement issued by the independent union of workers in the Jordanian railway sector after the meeting with the head of the Aqaba Commission to discuss the demands submitted by the union on 2018/10/17, in the presence of the Director General of the institution and employees representatives that the employees representatives were informed of the rejection of all demands.
Accordingly, the union carried in its statement the Commission president the escalation will be happen in the cities of Ma'an and Aqaba during the next 48 hours.
In the statement, the union also called on employees to strike, pointing out that the union and the committee are in a continuous meeting and they are delaying the parties concerned 48 hours from this date before the commencement of the escalation procedures.
