Labor Watch - On Monday, municipalities workers continued their strike amid a warning of escalating measures if the ministry continued to be stubborn and failed to respond to workers' demands.
A statement issued by the Independent Trade Unions Federation for Workers in Jordan Municipalities said on Monday that "after reviewing the decisions of the committee which was formed by the Minister of Municipalities, which we did not recognize before because they are not representative of the employees and because of the pressures carried out on municipality employees by some policy defenders of the Minister policy, who was able to drive wedge between the staff and the directors, and at the insistence of the ministry to ignore our legitimate demands as well as the silence of the government by all officials in this country, the Independent Trade Unions Federation for Workers in Jordan Municipalities decided, If there is no agreement with the parliamentary Labor and Social Development Committee, which will be held on Tuesday with representatives of workers, we confirm the continuation of the strike in conjunction with the assembly on the door of the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and move toward the fourth circle on Thursday, October 18.
The Federation added in its statement that there are a lot of escalation steps will be announced by the Federation depending on the attitude of the Ministry of Municipalities and its interaction with the demands of municipalities' workers.
