Labor Watch- A number of residents of Wadi Rum staged on Sunday a sit-in demanding the employment of their children in tourism and development projects in the governorate.
In a memorandum to the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, the protesters called for supporting the infrastructure of their area, which has become an important tourist destination, organizing the tourism movement in the region and preventing any gathering outside the visitors' center and the tourist offices must be obliged of that, and not to object any project or filming of films in Wadi Rum and facilitate the procedures for that, as well as obligate the associations of their tourist path and non-infringement on the path of other associations and tribal fronts, including " Laurence House" and "Tower of Frouth" of Wadi Rum Tourism Association in accordance with the rules of procedure of the assembly,
The protesters also demand of putting directional sign-boards for the village of Rum and visitor center at intersections and crossroads so that the visitor can reach his destination without any disguise, and cancel the decision to transfer the Tourist Heritage Museum project outside the planned area of the castle in the village of Rum besides cancel the decision to remove unauthorized camps to correct their conditions and work to authorize it, in addition to activate the service center inside the village and to work on regularize its existing employees, and provide employment opportunities for the youth to reduce the unemployment that exists in the area of tourism or development projects.
