Retirees' Sit-In Protest: Unpaid Bonuses Pile Up at Greater Irbid Municipality
Jordan Labor Watch -
On Sunday, the retirees of the Greater Irbid Municipality resumed their sit-in protest inside the municipality building, voicing their frustration over unpaid bonuses that have been accumulating for years.

During the protest, the retirees issued a statement recounting a two-hour meeting with the municipality's head, during which he listened to their demands and pledged to fulfill them. However, the retirees expressed skepticism about his promises, as they have experienced many broken commitments from him in the past.

Adding to their concerns, the retirees informed Jordan Labor Watch that the head of the municipality failed to honor his word from their previous protest. Despite having the legal right to claim these bonuses, as supported by previous court decisions and the Legislation and Opinion Bureau, retirees are yet to receive them.

According to the retirees, all other municipalities across Jordan have already provided their employees with the promised raises, except for Irbid. They attributed this predicament to an annual raise mistake made by the finance department.
The retirees stated that the municipality has been granting them a 1 JD bonus instead of the agreed 2 JDs, and there are also issues related to other bonuses and recognition of their years of experience.

With the number of retirees reaching 1000, they firmly stated that they would escalate their protest until their rightful payments were fulfilled as demanded.
