New regulations regarding the employment of people with disabilities issued

Jordan Labor Watch

Yesterday, 8 June 2021, a new decree for the employment of people with disabilities was promulgated in the Official Gazette of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The regulations outlined in the decree mandates that employers of over 50 workers are required to reserve 4% of their jobs for people with disabilities. Additionally, the regulation obligates establishments employing between 25 to 50 employees should hire at least one person with disabilities. According to the regulation, inspectors of the Ministry of Labor have the responsibility to “investigate the presence of any kind of discrimination on the basis of disability within the establishment, as well as the level of committment of the establishment in providing reasonable accommodating arrangements or transportations or other forms of accommodations for people with disabilities without placing the financial cost of those accommodations on on the employees with disabilities.”

The regulation also obliges the employer to employ a worker with disabilities to take into account his academic qualifications and practical experience, and to determine the appropriate salary for this worker without any discrimination on the basis of disability.
